TPO-18 - Integrated Writing Task In the 1950s Torreya taxifoha, a type of evergreen tree once very common in the state of Florida, started to die out. No one is sure exactly what caused the decline, but chances are good that if nothing is done, Torreya wi

The reading states that there are three possible solutions to save Torreya taxifoha trees in Florida and provides three reasons to support these suggestions. However, the lecturer explains that these solutions are not suitable enough to be a success and refutes each of the author's suggestion.
First of all, the reading claims the microclimate in Florida would be an appropriate place to reestablish these trees. However, the professor counters this point by saying that this climate has been affected by global warming so, the environmental conditions have become drier than before. So this solution is not successful.
Secondly, the article mentions that transforming the trees' habitat to a new location like forests might preserve these trees. However, the lecturer opposes this point by saying this idea might put other trees species in danger. He clarifies through an example that the trees may breed so quickly and compete for other native species of trees in forests. So this assisted migration has unpredictable effects.
Thirdly, the reading claims that growing the Torreya in research laboratories would save them. However, the professor rejects this point by saying these trees would not survive in these centers. He says the trees need to grow in a large environment and that would not be available in the laboratory.
