TPO-32 - Integrated Writing Task Starting in the 1960s and continuing until the 1980s, sailors in Russian submarines patrolling the North Alantic and Arctic Ocean would occasionally hear strange sounds. These underwater noises reminded the submarine crews

During 1960s to 1980s, the Russian submarines had constantly heard the sounds "quackers" when they were patrolling the Atlantic and Arctic Ocean. Strangely, the submarines' sonar did not detect any objects at the time. Several hypotheses are proposed to explain this phenomenon. The lecturer, however, questions all these assumptions.

The first theory suggests that the bizarre sounds were generated by the orca whales during their courtship ritual. The lecturer doubts this point, arguing that orca whales normally appeared on the surface of ocean while submarines stay deep in the ocean. Moreover, the orca whales are not undetectable or untraceable animals. Consequently, it is unlikely that the quackers were engendered by the orca whales.

The second assumption states that huge squid may probably cause the mysterious sounds as they are invertebrates, which are hard to be discovered by the sonar. The lecturer rebuts this view, challenging that the quackers temporarily showed up in two decades; nevertheless, squid have already existed before 1960s and are still present today. Hence, it doesn't make sense that the sounds suddenly appeared and stopped.

The third theory claims that another country's submarines were likely to produce the quackers when they were secretly patrolling the same area. The lecturer contradicts this assertion again, pointing out the flaws of this theory. The quackers moved rather fast whereas the submarines were incapable of changing direction quickly. Furthermore, the noise engine sounds were supposed to be caught but there were nothing similar being detected. Thus, this theory is unreasonable as well.
