TPO-34-1

The reading claims three theories about the extinction of a huge marine mammals known as Steller’s see cow. While the professor refuses these reason, since he believes these reasons are unconvincing.
Firstly, the reading opines that native people due to overhunting are the culprits of the extinction of Steller's sea cow. Controversy, the professor claims hat this mammals was very massive which the average weight of them was calculated about 10 tones. Therefore, these mammals could feed a village for a month and native people did not need to hunt they frequently.
Secondly, Although, the reading asserts that the sea cow population may have become extinct because of ecosystem changes, the professor elucidates that the population of other mammals such as whales can be decline in the ecosystem changes, While there have not been any reports related to decline of other mammals.
Eventually, the reading proves another theory associated with European migration who came to the island. Because they had weapons that allowed them to quickly kill a large number of animals. The professor rejects this theory, since he argues that before arriving of European the population of these mammals had been extinct and the European population are not blamed for this extinction.
