TPO-40 - Integrated Writing Task Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would

The reading discusses life can never maintain for a long period on Venus's surface. Because Venus is an extreme and inhospitable place for human presence. However, the speaker casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He says that people's life can probably sustain on Venus.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that atmospheric pressure at Venus's surface is so much greater than earth's surface, which about 90 times. This point is challenged by the speaker. He refute this idea by saying that people can build a bloom station about 50 km higher about the Venus's surface. The pressure of atmosphere there is equal to the earth.
Secondly, the author of the reading contends that there is no water on Venus. Moreover, Venus's surface contains mostly carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid. Hence, water cannot be supplied from the earth. The speaker rebuts this reason by saying that people can use carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid to produce water and oxygen.
Finally, the author of the reading states that there is infinitesimal light on Venus because light is being blocked by thick cloud. Therefore, people cannot have enough electricity to power machines and equipment. The speaker, on the other hand, opposes this point by saying that as the article has mentioned that cloud reflect sunlight. Thus, solar is able to reflect sunlight from cloud both above and below the surface of Venus. As a result, people can get enough light to operate their machines.
