The reading and the lecture are both debate about whether the bees were present 200 million years ago? Some structures have been found in Arizona State and some people believe that these were bee's nest. The author of the passage states that many skeptics believe these do not belong to bees and propose three arguments for that. However, the professor in the lecture casts doubt on the passage and claims that these arguments are not convincing.

Firstly, the passage states that there is no fossil of bees that belongs to 200 million years ago. The professor challenges this point and explains that fossil bees may be destructed and there were not enough trees. He also explains that most such trees have appeared later on the earth.

Secondly, the author asserts that there were not flowering plants, hence the bees could not have existed at that time. However, the professor casts doubt on this point and illustrates that bees maybe have been appeared on the earth before the flowering plants. He believes that some of the plants after evolution changed to flowering plants.

Thirdly, the passage asserts that the fossil structures are lack of some details that the nest of the modern bees has. The professor contradicts this point and states that by precise analysis of the chambers, scientists revealed that some waterproofing materials exist in the chambers. These materials are exist in the nest of the modern bees, hence, the fossils belong to bees.
