In this set of materials, based on the reading passage, some skeptics have doubt that bees have existed on earth as two hundred million years ago and cite several arguments. However, the speaker expresses none of these reasons are convincing.
The author mentions since, the earliest preserved body of a bee is one hundred years old, there were no bees in two hundred years ago. Whereas, the professor argues since, fossils have typically preserved in fossilized trees risen and trees with type of rise were very rare in two hundred years ago, no fossil remain of actual bees have ever been found that date to that time.
In addition, based on the passage since, bees and flowering plants have a close, mutually depending biological relationship and flowering plants first appeared on earth 125 million years ago, it is unlikely bees could have existed before that time. But, in the lecture, the speaker mentions it is likely before the flowering plants appeared on earth, bees was feeding on non-flowering plants like ferns, and when these plants appeared, bees was adopting themselves to feed on flowering plants.
Moreover, in the reading section, the author cites the fossilized chambers lack caps which exist in modern bees nests. However, based on the listening part, there are chemical evidences which support that fossilized chambers are similar to nests chambers made by modern bees. Ancient bees use a chemical composition to protect their nests chambers from water, like modern bees.
