Underwater whales produce loud noises known as songs Scientists use whale songs to study the movements for migrations of groups of whales Recently scientists discovered something unusual a single solitary whale whose song is unlike that of all other known

The reading and listening material are contradicting with each other in terms of the reasons why a whale sings at the unusual frequency of 52 hertz. The author points out some theories to illustrate this phenomenon, while the lecturer disagrees with his opinion and refutes all the theories in the article.
First and foremost, the author states that this special whale may be a hybrid of two different whale species because a hybrid can combine the characteristics of their parents and form a unique one. However, the lecturer casts doubt about this opinion by saying that hybrid generally is the consequence of migrations, while migrations of whales are very rare. There are not enough researches to demonstrate the existence of migration in the place where the unique whale is found.
Moreover, in the article, the author points out the whale may have a damaged sense of hearing. The article uses humans' examples to illustrate that this whale's songs may sound different simply because it cannot hear the songs of other whales. This theory is opposed by the lecturer by saying that this special high pitch depends on the completed structure of the throat. Why the songs sound different is because the throat's structure is different from others' throats, rather than it is damaged. And there is no link between the ability to hear others and the structure of throats.
Finally, the theory that this whale may be a member of a rare species and its parents and relatives are now gone is also refuted. The lecturer points out that the whale must have parents even it is rare, and their parents must have the same characteristic. And if these whales exist, their voice must be recorded by the advanced techniques that researchers are using. However, the detection techniques have been used for several decades and have no records of the same sound from different whales.
