Anyone help to create effective General statement.

The very first sentence of any Task 2 Essay, should be a general statement that provides an overview of the topic. This is essential because it tells the reader, what the essay is about and tells the examiner that you have understood the question topic.

A general statement is often referred to as a hook because it hooks your reader’s attention and maintains their interest in your essay. So a general statement shouldn’t just introduce the topic, it should also capture you audience and make them want to read your essay.

While many parts of your essay will change depending on the type of question, general statements follow the same structure, regardless of the essay type. This means that, with practice, you will be able to write general statements for any Task 2 Question, accurately and confidently.

You do not need to learn a million different ways of writing an general statement. You will only write one essay in your exam, so use the sentence structure you are confident with. It does not matter if it seems boring to you because you have used it many times before. Neither should you be concerned that other examinees are using a similar sentence. You will not get extra marks for being unique or exciting. You will score highly by using the most accurate and appropriate sentence, so use one that you have practised many times before.

There are several ways to introduce a topic but many will use the present perfect. (As you are talking about an issue that continues to this point and has a significant effect on the present.)

A general statement does 3 things:

It introduces the topic
It hooks the readers attention
It tells the reader why the topic should be discussed

The best way to achieve those three goals, is to provide an interesting fact or piece of information about the topic that shows it s an important issue. This can be done using one of the methods stated below:

Method 1: State why the topic is important

Method 2: Talk about a recent development that impacts the topic

Method 3: Talk about what impact the topic plays on our daily lives or society
