the graph below shows electricity production ( in terawatt hours ) in France between 1980 and 2010
the graph illustrates the amount of electricity produced in France by four different sources namely Thermal, Nuclear, Hydroelectric, and Renewables over the period of 30 years, starting from 1980.
As is shown by the graph that Nuclear was the most popular source for producing electricity in France. Also, while the amount of Nuclear and Renewable increased, the opposite was true for Thermal and Hydroelectric power.
In 1980, the amount of electricity generated by Nuclear began at 70 Terawat hours before growing to 100TW-hours in the next 5 years. Subsequently, the figure for Nuclear power reached a peak of more than 450TW-hours in the year 2005 followed by a slight decrease by 30TW-hours at the end of the period. Regarding Renewable sources, the year 1980 witnessed a negligible amount. Although remaining unchanged until 2005, the amount of electricity produced by Renewable increased slightly to approximately 25TW-hours in the last year.
By contrast, Thermal power started at the highest amount of source used for producing electricity in France with more than 120TW-hours, compared with only 50TW-hours produced by Hydroelectric. Then, the figure for Thermal saw a significant decrease to almost 50TW-hours in 1985 before remaining stable until 2010. Meanwhile, the amount of Hydroelectric used by France witnessed a minor fluctuation around 70 and 50 TW-hours during the period.
