The line chart illustrates the number of goods transported by four different means of transportation between 1974 and 2002. According to the chart, it is obvious that road was the most popular modes during the period.
An upward trend was seen for road, pipelines, and water transportation. Road was the highest mode utilized by people transporting 70 million tonnes of goods which was 30 million tonnes higher than other two closest means, water and railways. By then, the number of goods transferred by road, water, and pipelines rose which ultimately reached 100 million tonnes, 65 million tonnes, and 21 million tonnes in 2002, respectively. Although pipeline figure experienced a decrease, the rise was marginal in comparison with the other two ways.
On the other hand, railways figure continued to fall and touched the lowest point, roughly 25 million tonnes of goods in 1994. The railways figure, however, recovered gradually and back to the initial amount of tonnes in 1974 after 1999.
It is clear that despite downward and upward trends happening among the four means, there were no significant changes on the rank of modes taken by people to transfer goods from one place to another during the period.
