Issue essay

Many people think that companies should encourage its employees to work more, either by working extra hours or by taking work home. Those people think that no matter how the work is done, there should be enough productivity at the end of the day. These people generally do not think about the employees and only focus on work and production. On the contrary, there are some people who disagree with these people and say that companies should rather discourage its employees from working extra time and taking work home. These kind of people think that there should be enough breaks between the work so that the result produced is not just effective, but also done from heart. I would like to agree with the latter group of people and would like to refute the former one.

Firstly, I personally do not believe in 'All work and no play'. With this I mean that a person should not be allowed to work continuously in order to gain specified result for the company. Working all time, even at home, without any leisure will be harmful not only for the employee, but also for the company. When an employee is tired of working long, he will perform the work and complete the task as if he/she is a machine, without involving his heart and soul in the work. I feel that one's heart and soul should be present while working and one should enjoy his work, only then the result produced is a benefit for a company, otherwise its similar to a machine going on repeating the same process without any new innovations and ideas.

Secondly, I think that breaks/gaps are indeed necessary for an employee, as it acts as an recharging agent. When an employee is allowed to spend his leisure time according to him, he will definitely love his work and enjoy. Moreover, giving a break makes a person in refreshing his mind and develop new ideas and thinking, which is a bonus factor for the company itself. As it is necessary for a machine, to stop at regular intervals, in the same way it is necessary for an employee to spend his leisure time in his own way.

Finally, there are many some disadvantages when employees of an organization work for extra work and also by taking their work home. One among them is a worker cannot concentrate on his work when he is out of his office environment. When en employee works at home, there are many disturbances usually, which will not be the problem while he is working at his office. Further, it is also contagious for the company when an employee works without focusing, which usually happens when someone works for long hours.

In conclusion, I would like to urge all the companies to discourage its employees from working at home and from working extra hours. While there are arguments to be made on both sides of the argument, there are more advantages and less disadvantages when employees work with breaks in the office atmosphere, and not elsewhere. Hence, I totally agree with the given statement that 'Companies benefit when they discourage employees from working extra hours or taking work. When employees spend their leisure time without producing something for the job, they will be more focused and effective when they return to work.'
