Given is the table providing statistical information about the proportion of households owning various types of equipments. It is clearly seen that there was an overall improvement in indicators and depending on the year some durables become more popular or died out.
Firstly the most striking set of statistics relate to the central heating systems and telephones which showed a twofold increase, to be more precise, soared from 37 to 64 and from 42 to 77 respectively during a decade. In terms of owning televisions, refrigerators and washing machines there also was a growth but it was relatively small compared to others; just went up by 5 %, 21 % and 14 % accordingly.
When it comes to purchasing dishwashers it reveals that, people were not more likely to have such items, only 3 % of households had dishwashers in 1978 which increased by 2 % during the rest of the period. Additionally, the use of videos began in 1983, when vacuum cleaners become unavailable.
To conclude, the table suggests that, there were some discrepancies in consuming habits of Britain across the indicated year.
