average monthly spend on children's sports in Britain

The line charts depict the amount of money consumed for children's sports every month by British parents, and the number of young participants in swimming, athletics, and football from 2008 to 2014.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the monthly spending on children's sports in the examined years. While more and more children took part in the three sports activities, football attracted the highest volume of attendees in the whole period.
As can be seen from the first chart, accounting for only 20 pounds per month in 2008, the money poured into sports for children increased dramatically, climbing to its peak at over 32 pounds in 2014. This resulted in the rising number of kids in sports activities.
In 2008, in contrast to a large number of football attendees, with 7.5 million, those for swimming and athletics were both under 2.5 million. In the next years, regardless of its insignificant decline in 2010, football was still the most popular activity for children with nearly 9 million players in 2014. Meanwhile, after a 2-year period of stability, the number of youngsters involved in athletics plummeted to 5 million in 2012, surpassing the figure of swimming, followed by a marginal decrease in 2014. Swimming was the only activity to experience a continual increase in its participants, soaring to its highest point in 2014 at about 3.5 million.
