Overall, the proportion of households renting accommodation declined noticeably from first to end the year; in contrast, the percentage of an owned house increased. According to the data, the highest proportion of people who lived in a rented house was around 78% in 1918 while the owned accommodation was the least proportion, at over 20%. In 1971, the percentage of both owned and rented accommodation was in the same, at 50%. Besides, after 1971, the rate of the owned house increased gradually to reach near 70% until 2001. However, the rate of owned homes fell slightly and the percentage of rented homes rose.
