The chart below shows the changes in car ownership in Great Britain between 1961 and 2001.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisions where relevant.
The line chart illustrates the changes in the proportion of British families owning no car, one car and two or more cars over
the period 1961 to 2001.Overall, the percentage of people who owned no car or one car decreased, while the rate of
households had two or more cars increased significantly during the period shown.
In 1961, British families who had no car and one car accounted for approximately 65% and 35% respectively, whereas there
were no families owned two or more cars. Over the following 20 years, the percentage of families owning one car saw a
sharp increase, with the highest level of 50%. By contrast, the percentage of those who had no car decreased significantly
by nearly one third. During the same period, as can be seen from the graph, the rate of households owning two or more
cars climbed to about 15%.
Between 1981 and 2001, the proportion of families owning two or more cars rose enormously to nearly 30%, while the
figure of those without a car dropped steadily to less than 30%. Families who had one car were still top, but the proportion
showed a slight decline, with about 45% of the total by 2001.
