The chart below shows the number of men and women in further education in Britain in three periods and whether they were studying full-time or part-time. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.

The given chart illustrates how many British men and women were pursuing full time or part time education from 1970 to 1991.

Overall, it is clear from the graph that an increasing trend is seen for part time education among females while, a decreasing trend is observed in male counterparts. However, full time education saw a gradual rise in males and a significant rise in females. A remarkable difference is seen among males and female choosing part time and full time studies. Part time was seen to be more popular than full time.

On the one hand, males showed a decline in studying part time subjects. In 1970, one million males were involved that decreased to around 840 thousand in 1980. In 1990, it slightly increased to 850 thousand males studying part time. Full time education was on a steady rise in males from 100 thousand in 1971 to about 220 thousand in 1991, but still was lower than part time education.

On the other hand, in females a gradual rise was note in part time education. In 1970, it was 700 thousand, that increased to 1.1 million in 1991. Approximately 90 thousand females studied full time in 1971, that slowly increased to 220 thousand in 1991. A significant difference between full time and part time is observed in female group also. Part time was much more popular as compared to full time education.
