The given chart compares the proportion of households in owned and rented accommodation in two nations consisting of England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.

It is clear that the percentage of rented accommodation was highest in 1918 and this figure had a downward trend over 90 years. While owned one had a tendency to increase the figure in the research period.

In 1918, the percentage of households renting accommodation was highest, at nearly 78% whilst the figure for owned accommodation was significantly lower at 23%. Both of two figures fluctuated and had the same share at 50% in 1917.

In 1917, the proportion of rented accommodation experienced a sharp fall and reached its lowest point at 32% in 2001. By contrast, the figure for households in rented accommodation had a dramatic rise to 69% which was the highest percentage, compared to the other at the same period. After 10 years, the proportion of rented accommodation was an insignificant rise at 35% and the other figure went down unnoticeable to 64%.
