The chart gives information about the number and purposes of trips made by men and women in one year in a certain European country. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main feature and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart illustrates and compares travelling patterns of both genders divided into six reasons in a particular European country in the year 2007.
Overall, males travelled more than females in terms of day trips, sport and entertainment, and working purposes, while the opposite was true for the remaining reasons. It is also of note that commuting to work was the major travelling reason for men, meanwhile women were most likely to go shopping.
The largest number of trips made by males, at 300, was to travel to work, being nearly double the figure for their female counterparts, registering the biggest gender gap. A similar travelling pattern was seen in sport and entertainment, and day trip, the least common travelling reason, in which figures for the former, at 70 and 60 trips, respectively, were twice as much as those for the latter.
By contrast, shopping was the main reason for a majority of trips made by women at 260, which was 40 trips more than their opposite sex. This same gender gap was witnessed in bringing children to school, yet with figures being considerably lower (below 150 trips). Finally, both genders made relatively comparable travels regarding visiting friends, at approximately 160 trips.
