The charts below show the percentage of water used for different purposes in six areas of the world.

The pie charts compare six different areas in terms of water used for industrial, agriculture and domestic.
It’s clear that more water is consumed by industrial than by agriculture or domestic in North America and Europe. By contrast, agriculture accounted for the vast majority of water used in South America, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia.
The percentage of water used for industrial, agriculture and domestic is quite similar in North America and Europe, and so a strong correlation is suggested. Industrial water consumption accounted for 48% and 53% of the total water usage. By contrast, a mere 13% and 15% of water is used for domestic. Furthermore, agriculture water use accounts for 39% and 32% respectively.

South America was the lowest about 71% and Central Asia accounted for a massive 88% of water usage. Furthermore, just 5% of water used for industrial in Central Asia, this figure was not as much as half in South East Asia. In Africa, residential water consumption accounted for 9%, compared to only 7% of water used for industrial.
