It is clear that the proportion of students who were able to speak English along with another language in this university increased. We can also see that the popularity of French language decreased over this time.
In 2000, the most common foreign language among British students was Spanish as if 30%of them mastered this language, and it kept its popularity by 2010 when more than one third of students were able to speak Spanish. The second popular language in 2000 was French, with 15% of total speakers. However, fewer students were interested in French in 2010, at just 10 per cent.
The percentage of monolingual students saw an increase from 10% to 15%, while the total proportion of learners who were just able to speak English decreased, with 20 % and 10% in the years 2000 and 2010 respectively. German was the only language which students embraced it equally over this period, at just 10%.
