The pie charts illustrate the percentage of British students who can speak another language in addition to English. The survey was done at a university in 2000 and 2010.

Overall, during this period pupils were keen on learning Spanish than other types of language and they became more interested to be multilingual.

Firstly, the proportion of Spanish speakers grew up by 5 percent, from 30 to 35 percent. Throughout this period, pupils were reluctant to learn French and it witnessed a decrease for 5 percent, stood at 10 percent in 2010. One-tenth of bilingual spoke German in 2000 that remained constant for 10 years.

In addition, the rate of single language speakers became half from one-fifth in 2000 to 10 percent in 2010 while the proportion of pupils who could speak another language and two other languages rose by 5 percent and reach 20 and 15 percent over 10 years, respectively.
