The charts below show US spending patterns between 1966 and 1996.

The pie charts given illustrate differences in the expenditure on distinct items during the 30-year period from 1966 to 1996 in the U.S.
it is evident that food represented the largest percentage of expense, whereas computers’ share was the lowest. Besides, in 1996 , the spending on cars made up the highest portion, while the opposite was true of books.
As can be seen from the first pie chart, the proportion of food was the largest with nearly a half, compared to that of cars and petrol with merely a quarter and 1 in 10. 7%, 10% and 6% were reported for restaurants, furniture and books, respectively. Computers contributed a minimal share, with only 1%.
According to the second chart, in 1996, the percentage of cars ranked first, with nearly 5 in 10. The figure for petrol and restaurant was recorded with 8% and 14%. The share of books was 14%, which was also 2% higher than that of computers and 4% higher than funiture’s statistic. The figure for book was just 1% only.
