The line graph illustrates the proportion of income gap between genders in five different countries namely Japan, the US, the UK, France, and Australia over the period of 30 years starting from 1978.

As can be seen from the graph, it is clearly evident that the percentage of difference in income between men and women saw a decrease for most of the period. However, after 1998, there was a rapid growth witnessed in Australia.

There was a considerable decline in the income gap between men and women in Japan from almost 50% to 40% over the time frame. A similar pattern could be seen in the US, which fell evidently to 28% in 2007 despite reaching 35% in 1978.

At the beginning of the period, the proportion of the difference in payment between two genders in the Uk and France saw a gradual reduction. That in the UK was falling from nearly 30% to 25% while a decline from nearly 20% to over 15% could be seen in France. In contrast, the figure for Australia reached a lowest peak at 27% in 1978, then saw a down trend in the 20 years later and it skyrocketed to stand at 25% at the end of the period.
