The table gives information about reasons why UK citizens traveled overseas, while the bar chart demonstrates the number of UK people who went to different sites in the world.
Overall, most people spent their holidays abroad, and Western Europe was the most popular destination.
Looking at the table, in 1994 over 15,000 UK residents went on vacation in foreign areas, significantly higher than the figure for business and visiting purposes, at over 3,000 and 2,500 respectively. Only 982 people went abroad for other reasons. From 1994 to 1998, the number of people take overseas holidays, in general, showed an upward trend, growing by above 20,000. The same pattern could be seen in the business and visiting sectors. By contrast, the number of people with other reasons remained low with slight fluctuations.
Turning to the table, the highest number of citizens in the UK traveled to Western Europe, at nearly 20,000 people, which declined slightly before rising and peaked at approximately 25,000 in 1998. Meanwhile, although the figure for UK people went to North America and other regions was low, below 5000 through the surveyed period, more and more people coming to these places.
