The graph reveals energy consumed in American from 1980 to 2008, and the forecast until 2030.
It is apparent that petrol and oil are the major consumption throughout this period, with 35 quadrillion units used in 1980, increasing to 40 units in 2008. In spite of the initial fluctuation, from 1995, there was steady increase in the usage of petrol and oil. In addition, this is expected to continue, reaching 47 units in 2030. Energy derived from coal and natural gas, meanwhile, illustrated the similar trend before 2015. Coal and natural gas started at 20 units and 16 units respectively, with gradual increase to 25 units in 2015. After 2015, the usage of coal is anticipated to continue to rise, whereas gas consumption will level off.
By contrast, the nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower were the least significant. Over the years, these sustainable energy sources, only accounted for around 4-5 quadrillion units. It is expected that the usage of nuclear and solar/wind will slightly increase after 2025, while hydropower will remain stable at 3 units until 2030.
Overall, while American will continue to rely on traditional fossil fuels, the sustainable energy sources remaining unpopular.
