The provided chart makes a comparison of daily commute using three different modes of transport (namely car, bus, and train) over a 60-year period.
Overall, it is evident that car is the most preferred means of transportation throughout the period given. Also, whereas the numbers of workers using car and bus experience an upward trend, the opposite is true for the figures of people using train.
Looking at the information in more detail, in 1970, nearly 5 million UK commuters traveled by car, while the bus and train were used by around 4 and 2 million individuals respectively. In the year 2000, the number of those who used car to commute rose to approximately 7 million, and the figure for train commuters reached 3 million. However, there was a marginal decline of 0,5 million in the number of bus users.
By 2030, almost 9 million UK workers are expected to commute by car, whilst the number of train passengers is also predicted to reach well under 5 million. By contrast, buses are expected to become a less popular choice, with just under 3 million daily commuters.
