The graph below shows the percentage of people in the different age groups who went to the cinema once a month in Great Britain.

The line graph illustrates the proportion of cinema-goers in four different age ranges in Great Britain who went to the cinemas once a month between 1984 and 2000.

Overall, the number of cinema visitors in four age groups increased during the period given. Strikingly, filmgoers aged between 15 and 24 visited cinemas most frequently, while people aged 35 or over rarely go to the cinemas.

Starting at just under 20% in 1984, the proportion of filmgoers in the youngest age group increased considerably to 40% in 1994. Similarly, there was an uptrend in the data of people in the 7-14 and 25-35 age groups which climbed to around 30% and 25% respectively. Meanwhile, the figure for cinema visitors aged 35 or older recorded a slight growth of 5% in 1994.

After 1994, the proportion of cinema-goers aged 7-14 continued to rose and reached a peak at 55% in 1999. Likewise, the data of people in the 35 and over age group also experienced a significant rise of 10% in 2000. In contrast, after reaching the peak at around 38% in 1999, the percentage of the youngest group decreased sharply to just over 30% in one year, whereas the figure for people aged between 25 and 35 stabilized at 35% during 5 years followed by a rise to around 22% in 2000.
