A glance at the line graph provided illustrates the percentage of people who are 65 years old and over during the period from 1940 to 2014 in three nations: America, Sweden and Japan.
Overall, it is evident that there is a considerable fluctuation in the number of the population in these three countries, with lows in 1940 and highs in 2040.
Increasing from approximately 7 percent in 1940 to 20 percent during the 2000s, the proportion of Sweden's old population, then, decreases gradually in the period of the 2020s. This is followed by a period of exponential growth, with this population in Sweden, rises quickly to 25 percent in 2040.
From 1940 to 2020, the old of Japan makes up the lowest line of the graph, under 10 percent. However, the number of old population in Japan sees a rapid climb, over 25 percent in 20140.
In America, there is a constantly development in the percentage of population aged 65 years and over between 1940 and 1980, before dropping slightly to under 15 percent in 2020. The latter years of the graph, however, brings a sustained increase in this figure, about 23 percent in 2040.
