Vaccination for flu was tried on the women of a large town in the countryside in the month of June during the year 1996 on an experimental basis. Bar chart indicates deaths from flu of the natives from March to August. The table illustrates the percentage of females who are at a maximum risk, out of those who were given vaccination. Lines on the third graph depict the number of death cases filed based on gender for a period of 11 months from February to December.
To begin with, the death of only one female from flu was reported before the experiment was conducted. This rose to a maximum of four during two months after June. As compared to this, only two males died during this period from June to August as a result of this epidemic.
Secondly, the table shows that the vaccine was given to only the females who were at a maximum risk from the disease, out of which 28% did not take part in the trial. Out of them, the majority were senior citizens aged 65 or above at 35%, followed by babies or young children at 24% and the least were those who were hospitalized at only 13% of the total.
From the line graph, it can be clearly seen that the experiment had remarkable results with the female death rate decreasing from a maximum of 3500 in June to 2500 in September and levelling after that. Similar sort of positive outcome was obtained for the males, however, their figures were a little less as compared to their female counterparts.
