The maps illustrate the developments that have taken place in a town called Frenton during a period of 22 years between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, it is clear that Frenton experienced a significant transformation over the time show. Particularly, there were fewer trees remained and more buildings constructed.
Only the school and library in the west of High Street remained unchanged for 22 years. The playing fields with trees in the north of Frenton, for example, were replaced with numerous flats, while the hospital was expanded to meet the citizens’ needs. Furthermore, the bank in the west was demolished to make space for a new restaurant; whereas the trees in the southwest were cut down to make way for the construction of a technopark.
Meanwhile, the café and park area, located in the east of High Street was replaced with a hotel and golf course. Moreover, houses in East Frenton were also reconstructed into blocks of flats and there was the appearance of groups of flats in the north of the town. One further development, in Southwest Frenton, was the construction of a new cinema and supermarket, in replacement of the theatre and shops.
