The given maps depict details about the development in the structures of an Australian art gallery from 1950 up to now.
At first glance, it can be seen that the art gallery underwent a noticeable change by constructing many valuable functional parts. Besides, it is also noted that the primary function rooms still remain the same.
Initially, in 1950, the sculpture room was located in the center of the building, which could be entered by the entrance in front. In addition, to the left of the main hall, there were three service rooms including cafe, temporary exhibition and bookshop, which was built at an even size. By contrast, there was an art section on the right side divided into three smaller rooms namely early European Art, middle European Art and Australia Art, respectively. However, the whole building was partly surrounded by the courtyard to the Northside.
At present, the most striking sign is that the courtyard was totally demolished to make room for, from the left to the right, children art school, Australian Aboriginal Art and Australian Art. Simultaneously, the room which was used for Australian Art now has become the Asian Art room. Additionally, the cafe section was divided to make space for the restroom on the left side.
