The line graph indicates the proportion of possessive car per household in Great Britain over a period of 40 years from 1961 to 2001.
Overall, it is obvious that the percentages of one car and two cars and more ownership increased during the period shown. Meanwhile, the percentage of families having no car decreased significantly.
In 1961, the percentages of one car and two cars and more possession were nearly 30% and 10% respectively, whereas households owned no car accounted for the highest proportion with 70%. Between 1961 and 2001, the percentage of two cars and more owned per household rose sharply in 1971 with 30% before going up gradually and reached the peak at about 49% in 2001.
One car and no car owned per household had the same percentage in 1971 with around 38%. From 1971 to 2001, the percentage of no car ownership went down dramatically and hit the lowest point in 2001 at 10%, while the figure for one car ownership stayed the same from 1971 to 1981 at about 38% and then it hit the highest point in 2001 with approximately 39%.
