The diagram illustrates the structure and function of one hot air balloon.
Overall, they are two main parts of a hot air balloon: the envelope and the base. While envelope is the largest part, the base has the most important role in producing heat.
Regarding the envelope part, it is formed by panels and gores. On the top of it there’s a parachute valve which is a self-sealing flap allowing people to adjust the amount of hot air escaping.
When it comes to the base, it is connected to the upper part by a skirt and many ropes. The propane cylinder is put outside the basket. At the burning stage, propane is pumped into the burner. When the substance is burned, It produces flame to heat the air. The hot air then rice is inside the envelope and allows the hot air balloon to take off. It is because the hot air is lighter than the cool one so that it can easily flow upward.
