The pie chart below show recycling in Sydney, Melbourne and Worldwide.
The pie charts show information related to the levels of recycling for plastics, glass and paper in Sydney and Melbourne, while contrasting those figures with worldwide statistics.
It is noticeable that in the two Australian cities shown, paper accounts for approximately one quarter of the recycling carried out, with Sydney on 22% and Melbourne showing 24%. Whereas on a global scale, paper, in comparison is by far the most recycled product with a much larger value of 54%.
In Melbourne, the level of glass recycling accounts for 55% of the total, which far outweighs the proportions for paper and plastics. Sydney's figures show a lesser 38% of total recycling being dedicated to glass. In marked contrast, glass only represents 11% of recycling around the world.
The same trend is not mirrored in terms of plastics. When we consider the plastics figures, huge and dramatic differences can not be seen. Melbourne recycles 21% of plastics, and Sydney dedicates 40% of its recycling to plastic. The worldwide volume of plastic recycling is a relatively similar value of 34%.
