The pie charts below show the main reasons why students chose to study at a particular UK university in 1987 and 2007.
The given pie charts illustrate the information regarding 5 major factors which made students enroll at one UK university in the 2 years 1987 and 2007.
Overall, while the majority of students considered suitable degree courses to be an important reason, a difference after 20 years was the tendency among them to want to be close to their parents.
According to the charts, 35% of the given reasons was suitable degree courses in 1987, higher than the percentage of quality resources and sports/social activities by 14% and 16%, respectively. Much lower than these figures, quality of teaching and being close to parents each accounted for merely 15% and 10%.
By contrast, two decades later, the proportion of the students going to the university because of proximity to parents experienced a considerable rise to almost a quarter. However, that of those who sought sports and social activities remarkably dropped to as low as 6%. In comparison to the 8% of students prioritizing the quality of teaching of the university, twice as many students chose the quality of resource in 2007.
