As can be seen from the above table, it gives an overall outlook of consumer expenditures on different items across the world in 2002. Generally speaking, spending on diet representing food, drink and tobacco constitutes the greatest part for a national consumer’s total expenditure, while, in contrast, the one on clothing and footwear is the second most part and spending on leisure and education is the least.
Except for a general trend among these 5 countries listed in the table, by comparing percentages of total expenditure on each category, we could also find out that Turkey spends the most percentage of money on their daily diet, while Sweden is the least.
Regarding clothing and footwear, there is no significant discrepancy among Ireland, Spain, Sweden and Turkey. Their percentages of expenditure on this category are roughly 6.5%, while people in Italy spends astonishing amount on clothing and footwear 9%. Leisure and education cost people the least in contrast with other necessary expenditures in life, where Turley is highest, and Spain is the lowest.
