The pie chart gives information about the major reasons that people moved to and from the UK in 2007. Overall, it is noticeable that employment was the biggest driving force for migration.

Those who moved for their definite job comprised the largest proportion of both immigrants (29%) and emigrants (30%). The percentage of people who move to join their family also appeared to be similar in both groups of people, at 15% and 13% respectively. In sharp contrast to these, formal study, which is the reason why 26% of people moved to the UK, appealed to only 4% of the residents to leave.

As for those who seek employment, 22% of the residents of the UK moved to another country, while only 12% of people entered the UK for this purpose. 32% of emigrants and 17% of immigrants either expressed ‘other’ reasons for their decision or did not give a reason.
