Essay topics:

The three pie charts below show the changes in annual spending by a particular UK school in 1981, 1991 and 2001.

The pie charts describe how a particular UK school spent money every year in the three years of 1981, 1991, and 2001. Overall, expenditure on teachers’ salaries, insurance, and furniture and equipment showed an upward trend during the three years while that on other workers’ salaries and resources e.g. books a downward trend.
There was an increase in the expenditure on teachers’ salaries, insurance, and furniture and equipment in the twenty years. Two decades witnessed a significant rise in the spending on insurance, increasing from 2% in 1981 to 8% in 2001. Meanwhile, the amount of money on teachers’ salaries went up to 45% from 40%, with a peak at 50% in 1991. Also, the expense on furniture climbed to 23% from 15%, with a great dip at 5% in 1991. Although the money on teachers’ salaries was always far more than that on insurance, the latter reflected a greater growth rate.
However, the amount of money on other workers’ salaries and resources e.g. books experienced a decrease, which was more obvious in workers’ payment from 28% to 15%. The twenty years saw a drop in resources e.g. books from 15% to 9%, with a rise at 20% in 1991.
