The two graphs show the main sources of energy in the USA in the 1980s and the 1990s.

The given graph depicts data on five different basic types of US power sources between 1980s and 1990s. Overall, oil was the most essential energy source throughout US.

It is very clear that the major source of energy production in the USA was oil, which accounted for 42%, just under a half. Following that coal and natural gas showed a little difference in proportion with 22% and 26% respectively, the total amount of these two energy produced outstripped that of oil. In comparison with other types of energy, hydroelectric and nuclear power were not produced in a large scale. Both of these energy came equal in amount of only 5%.

In the next decade, nuclear power proved its potential when the amount of this power production doubled. Beginning with the same level as that of nuclear, however hydroelectric received no change to stand at only 5%. On the other hand, coal and natural gas experienced some noticeable variations when coal witnessed a significant development in production which was higher 5% in 1990s. Conversely, natural gas volume came with a minimal reduction to 25%. During this time, oil production reduced to 33%, which was almost 10% less than the previous decade but still remained as the largest source of power.
