The two graphs show the main sources of energy in the USA in the 1980s and the 1990s
The pie charts illustrate the percentages of five energy products in the USA in two decades.
Overall, the quantity of oil, natural gas and coal were the largest during the 20-year timescale. Although the figure for oil witnessed a considerable decline at the end of the period, it was the main resource used for energy production during the 20-year timescale.
There was a significant drop in the quantity oil produced in the USA from 42 per cent to 33 per cent in the between the 1980s and the 1990s. Whereas, the opposite trend was experienced by the proportion of coal, which was 22 per cent at the beginning of the period then grew moderately by 5 percent, overtaking natural gas 20 years later.
In both years, the amount of hydroelectric power produced remained steady at 5 per cent. On the other hand, the figure for nuclear power production doubled to 10 per cent while natural gas accounted for one-fourth of energy production in the USA in the 20-year period.
