City council is planning to pull down one of the historic buildings in your town, because they do not have funds to renovate it.
As a citizen, you don’t want it to happen. Write a letter to the city council and say
– What is the importance of the building?
– Why should it be renovated?
– Suggest a plan to raise funds and maintain the building in the future.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Yesterday I heard that the city council is planning to pull down the Galle clock tower which is in the Galle fort, due to lack of funds to renovate it.
This clock tower was built during the Dutch era and believed to be once of an ancient monument in Sri Lanka. This adds a great value and it is one of a main land marks in Sri Lanka. The Dutch clock tower shows how beautiful is the Dutch architecture and it adds a significant value to the people of Galle.
This tower is one of a main attraction for tourists, and lots of people will loose their main income as they depends on tourism. Also when you picture it from Galle cricket stadium, which is bit far from the Galle fort, you can capture a nice picture and this clock tower adds a quiet nice look to it. Apart from that, for Galle people this clock tower shows the time as this is visible from almost every location of the city. By looking at these points, i hope you can understand the importance of renovating this.
Because of these importance I believe the best option would be to renovate it. As one of a Galle citizen, I think we can start a raffel draw and a carnival to raise the funds which is required to renovate this historical monument. Also the carnival will bring joy to the people of Galle and will raise the funds in no time.
yours,
Faithfully,
Nethandun Wijethilaka
