City council is planning to pull down one of the historic buildings in your town because they do not have funds to renovate it. As a citizen, you don’t want it to happen. Write a letter to the city council and say – What is the importance of the buil

Dear Michael,
I am writing this letter to express my concern over the decision of demolishing a century-old building – Rohtas Fort – due to non-availability of funds needed to preserve the building. I am downright saddened by the news as the strenuous efforts, monetary and non-monetary, by our forefathers to preserve this ancient building would go futile.

The building, built by the ruler of Potohar Plateau, is of utmost importance due to its historical significance, and it truly depicts the culture and history of the Mughals era in Asia. Moreover, National Geographic had made a documentary on this fort which went live a month ago. Soon after the media coverage, a number of tourists, national and foreigner flocked to visit the site which ultimately benefited the local businesses and traders. In the future, local council office should devise an appropriate advertisement strategy to promote this tourist site on different forums such as social media.

Considering the exponential increase in the number of visitors, there are many ways that could be introduced to generate the revenue and earmark it for the purpose of repair and maintenance. One of the best solutions is to introduce the concept of entry tickets and offer guided tours to foreign tourists. Further, a formal request should be made to key stakeholders, local businessmen, and charities, to support this cause by fixed monthly contributions. Revenue generated from these streams would suffice the budget required for maintenance of the building.

In the light of above, hope local council will call on a meeting to change its decision in the best interests of local community.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you feel I can contribute any further to this noble cause.

Regards,
