Hi Dave,
Thanks for reaching out to me with the problem you are facing at work. I can understand and relate to it as it is a very common thing many employees go through at junior level in corporate working environment. Many people at team leader level try to suppress their team members at work and not give enough credit to their work. However, it is their responsibility to bring out the best out of the team members and grow together.
I have faced a similar problem with my team manager in the initial phase of my first job. My work was never recognized by my manager and he has even gone to the extent of portraying my ideas and suggestions as his own with the project directors. This made me feel really low since they turned out to be valuable to the company and have brought in multiple clients . But, after a while when I couldn’t take it anymore, I spoke to my manager that I deserve credit for my contribution to the team and the company. My confession made him realize his mistake and has never let it happen again. It is best for you to do the same and have a conservation with your team leader directly. I am sure once that happens, he won’t take you for granted anymore. If the problem still persists, you can speak to the Human Resources department and file a complaint against your team leader. They can help you resolve the issue with your manager or might give you an option in change of the team. I am sure you don’t have to go that level, as a direct conversation with your team leader would be enough to find a solution.
I hope this experience of mine will help you to resolve the situation at work. Let me know how it goes.
