Letter of Advice - IELTS Writing Task - I, General TestA friend has written to you asking for advice about a problem at work. You have had a similar problem in the past. Write a reply to your friend. In your letter: tell your friend you understand the pro

Dear Emily,

I am really delighted to have received your letter. Glad to hear you have finally found a well-paid job without having graduated from the uni. In your letter you mentioned some issues that bother you much and I am going to give you some advice on how to address them.

Luckily, I remember myself being in your shoes on my first days at work when I was thrown in at the deep end. I was assigned to meet a foreign delegation. The thing is that I could hardly remember any international business etiquette rules and put my foot in it over and over! So the confusion you wrote me about is quite familiar to me.

Actually, when I saw our Japanese colleagues for the first time I gave them my hand to shake, whereas, as I had been taught earlier, a bow should have been given instead. My next faux pas was to put their business cards in my pocket without reading them carefully, which made them annoyed. Fortunately, my manager was supportive and tolerant enough not to not tell me off afterwards but tried to reduce the growing tension between me and our guests.

Since your predicaments are similar to those I had at the beginning of my career, I suggest keeping calm and staying focused. Were I you, I would revise all the notes taken in my lectures to refresh my memory. Besides, there is plenty of information on the Internet that could be used to improve your communication skills.

Well, I hope my suggestions help you. If you need any more advice, feel free to text or call me.

Best wishes,

Nataliia
