TASK 1: You have just read an article in an international travel magazine which contained some information about your town which is incorrect. Write a letter to the editor of the magazine. In your letter,
• Correct the information in the article
• Explain why it is important for the magazine to give correct information
• Suggest what the magazine should do about this situation
Dear Mr. Lee,
I just finished reading the article‘Unknown things about Jalandhar’, in the thirteenth edition you quarterly travel magazine, Bon Voyage. I am an avid reader and have been following your publication from quite long now.
In the sixth line of the third paragraph of the article, you have made a mention of a religious place, Devi TalaabMandir and have stated it as one of the newly built temples in the city. I have been residing in this town from more than two decades and have been visiting this temple since then. I want to correct you by stating that this place is believed to be older than 200 years. For your reference and ease, I am giving a link which will authenticate my concern. You may like to visit the temple’s website at https://devitalabmandir.com/
To the best of my knowledge I know that you sell more than 300,000 copies of this magazine every year and see the magnitude of the response when people across the world would readincorrect information about a place which happened to be so old. There are certain beliefs and religious sentiments attached to such places. I am really afraid how the public would react to the error made by your team. You might be aware of the instances, in the past, where, in response to such mistakes, people turned into an agitated mob and held demonstration outside the publishing company.
Beinga responsible citizen, it is my prime dutyto bring this to your notice so that a necessary action can be taken at your end. I would request you that in your next edition, you may like to seek an apology from the readers and assure them that such mistakes will never be repeated in future.
I look forward for a positive feedback from your side.
Yours sincerely,
Navpreet
