Essay topics:

You play sport (e.g. football) for a local team. You recently heard that a player in your team is in a hospital.

Write a letter to your team-mate. In your letter:

Say how you feel about the news

Ask about the treatment in the hospital

Suggest some ways of cheering him/her up

Dear Jack,

How are you feeling?

I’m so sorry to hear about your sport accident. I’m just writing to convey my wishes and check on your welbeing.

I was devastated when I got a call from our coach Max, that you had tripped on the football and twisted your foot. I am saddened to hear that the fall fractured one of your toes, and you had to be rushed in to an operation. I am also am so unhappy that this terrible incident took place during the last practice, which I had to miss as I had a meeting at work.

I had called the coach to check on your health, when he told me that you will make a full recovery, but they placed a screw in the toe to mend the bone. I am so glad to hear this news, even if it means you can’t play with us for a while. I also heard that, since this was a simple procedure, you will only need three months of physotherepy. That means you can join us in time for our the champoionship tournament s in summer.

I know it all seems gloomy, and you must be highly bored while on bed rest, but luckily for you, the next season of Big Brother starts this Friday. I know you are a big fan of that show! I was also wondering, maybe while you recover, you could help the coach take the extra practice sessions, so you don’t miss out on the learnings.

I can’t wait to see you out on the field soon, either playing or coaching.

Best wishes,
Jay
