The first chart below shows the results of a survey which sampled a cross-section of 100,000 people asking if they traveled abroad and why they traveled for the period 1994-98.
The second chart shows their destinations over the same period.

The table demonstrates the number of people visited overseas countries between 1994 to 1998 over 100,000 people asked in the survey and their main purpose for that trip. Besides, their specific destinations during those five years are depicted in the second bar chart below.

Overall, according to both charts, the number of abroad travelers was increasing after each year and Western Europe attracted most visitors.

With regard to the table, there was an upward trend in the amount of UK residents traveled abroad in that period. Even it experienced a slight decrease of nearly 500 people in the total abroad travelers from 1994 to 1995, that number increased gradually over the next 4 years and reach a peak of 28,828 people. Among them, the majority visiting purpose was a holiday which accounted for 15,246 people in 1994 and was almost 5 times in comparison to the second reason-Business. Stay on the last order was other reasons for only 982 people in 1994 and kept fluctuating till 1998.

As we can see in the bar chart, Western Europe was the familiar destination for most UK residents when they travel overseas with approximately 19000 visitors in 1994. Similar to the trend of the total abroad travelers, in 1995, the visitors to Western Europe declined slenderly and then went up and peaked at nearly 25000 in 1998. The last rank belonged to North America with a stable upward trend from about 1000 to 2000 UK visitors after 5 years.
