Asteroids colonization

Essay topics:

Asteroids colonization

The reading passage and the lecture both explore whether people can colonize asteroids. The writer suggests that this could be the best alternative, and several reasons are given in support of this statement. As reasonable as these points seem, the professor in the lecture casts doubt on them, finding them impractical for the following reasons.
To begin with, the author states that the gravity of asteroids which is much lower than planets can bring advantages for the landing of spaceships. For example, not only can the landing be safer, but spaceships can carry more equipment as well. Conversely, disputing the passage’s argument, she notes that the low gravity of asteroids can pose negative impacts on spacemen's health, causing them to lose muscle mass and reduce their bone density. As a result, the lecturer believes that it won't be suitable for people to colonize asteroids in long term.
Second, even though the author proposes that there are valuable materials on asteroids that bring extreme profits and can offset the cost of sending them back to earth, the lecturer argues that it is a misconception. This is because the price to support the colonization of asteroids and the transportation of the material probably will end up outweighing the profits of materials. Furthermore, in an attempt to establish a more concrete explanation, the lecturer points out that the more material that is supplied from asteroids, the more the price on earth will decrease. Therefore, the lecturer disagrees with the author.
Last but not least, the lecturer acutely identifies a weakness in the passage that people can readily access asteroids since they’re closer to earth. She details that spacemen may have difficulty returning to earth from asteroids since the orbits of asteroids are casual, which have a chance to move far away from earth. Accordingly, the lecturer contradicts the article that asteroids are easy to reach.
To summarize, both the author and the lecturer hold conflicting views about whether colonization on asteroids will be the best option.
