birds

In the article points out that glass material that we use to builr windows are very harmful to wild birds, and suggest three solution that can be used to prevent birds from being injured. However the speaker in the lecture disagrees with these solutions and attacks each points made by the writer.

The auther begins with suggesting that responsible businesses can use one way glass widows, so people can see outside from the building, while birds cannot see inside. tThe professor in the listening states that there are flaws in this solution. He explains that even though birds cannot see from this kind of glass, they will see a reflection of trees and sky on the obscure side of the window, and hey want distiiguish it from the real sky or trees. Which will make them fly into the wth glass without paying attention.

Another solution that the writer mention to this problem is paint a colorful paterns on the window. She thinks that, people still can enjoy the outside sceen, while birds will see the stripes and avoid them. The lecturer brings up that these colorful painting will make rooms dark unless the openings are bigg enough, which can confuse birds and think they are wholes and try to go through them.

The last solution that the writer talks about is by equipping buildings with powerful electromagnets that resemble the magnetic signals that birds use to migrate. This will steer birds away from the building. Agai the professor rebuts this point by mentioning that birds use this signals only when they traveling long distances and they use their eyes and light to figure out their ways in short trips.

It can be summed up by accentuating that both the author and the speaker hold conflicting views about the possible solutions to birds` injuries that glass materials in the buildings cause.
