The passage talks about that glass windows cause harm to the flying birds, and the author of the passage offers several solutions to the responsible businesses to use to prevent injuries to birds. However, the professor says that none of each solution will stop the birds' injuries, and she refutes each of the author's solution.
First of all, the passage claims that replace the regular glass to one-way glass would help birds to avoid getting through the glass window as birds would not see through a window. However, the professor contradicts this solution by saying that one-way glass can cause injuries to birds as one-way glass reflects like a mirror. So, birds would see the reflection of the sky and trees on the mirror, and they would fly through as a sky. Therefore, the one-way glass will not prevent birds injuries.
Second of all, the passage avers that businesses can paint windows with colorful lines or adding strips to prevent birds from flying through the glass. While, the professor opposes this solution by saying that birds would see the lines as open holes, so they would try flying to them and got hurt. The professor added that the practical solution for birds is only to prevent extremely small lines, but that would make the room too dark for occupants to live.
Third of all, the passage states that creating artificial magnetic field windows would help to guide the birds away from buildings. As birds actually use this technique to navigate. However, the professor opposed this solution, and she states that birds use the magnetic field to navigate only in long distances. And she gave evidence that when birds migrate from cold to warm temperature, they use the magnetic field to fly. But in short distances, they use their eyes to determine their destination. That's why; artificial magnetic field would not have much benefits to the birds.
